The Master of Masters
Sri Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi’s teacher is the mountain known as Arunachala Siva (pronounced Shiva). The moment Kosi heard the name Arunachala a deep inexplicable desire arose to travel to India to meet this miraculous summit. At the time, it was simply awe-inspiring to her that a mountain was Ramana's teacher. The unimaginable Silent guidance of this mountain is the source of a lineage that offers the most direct route to liberation—the ending of suffering and an opening to true happiness and fulfillment in life.
It astounded and still astounds that of all the teachers that have come and gone throughout the centuries, Ramana’s teacher is still in physical form. How extraordinarily rare is it to meet the physical form of the teacher who was the teacher of one of the greatest teachers who has ever lived.
The essence of Arunachala is a koan, which simply means it cannot be understood by rational thinking, but is accessible through your intuition or higher states of consciousness. Arunachala is a vast emptiness that is both existence and non-existence—a reflection of the deepest Truth of your own being. Its very essence is the answer to the well-known koan, "What is the sound of one hand clapping?" as well as Papaji’s final teaching, “Where is the Buddha?"
Arunachala is such an awe-inspiring form that it was no small wonder that Ramana called this sentient hill his Teacher. Its sublime indescribable aura reveals the source of the pure love that flows from the well known poems Ramana wrote to this beloved mountain. The translation of Arunachala is Aruna (Light) and Achala (Mountain) or Light Mountain, Ramana called it Wisdom Hill and for Kosi it will always be Wisdom Mountain of Light. It is most certainly a force of nature free from both the dreamer and the dream—an unmoving effulgent Silent Presence.
The essence of Self-Inquiry and the teaching of Ramana is the Silence that is embodied in this mysterious mountain. While in India, Kosi had many profound revelations about this Mountain and the simplicity of Self-Inquiry, which is the Self-discovery that puts end to the suffering caused by the misidentification with thoughts of the mind and sensations of the body as who one is.
Often this teaching is discounted because of its simplicity, but for all those who take a deep drink of the Silence that Self-Inquiry offers; the most unimaginable love, happiness, and freedom is revealed to be the essence of who everyone really is.
Kosi compiled a few of her revelations in her coffee table book entitled Arunachala Siva - Heart of Ramana, which is a tribute to to this profound lineage of teachers. For more information please visit our bookstore.
