What is Satsang?

Satsang is a Sanskrit word, which means association with Truth. It is a face-to-face meeting with Kosi that offers you support for your own Self-inquiry. Sastsang is spontaneous by nature and it is impossible to know what might happen—the profound intimacy of satsang can evoke deep emotions; saddness, fear, love, laughter and throughtout there every satsang there is the most sublime Silence.

Kosi is purely present in the moment. Her primary purpose is to point you to the freedom of your true nature. She uses the vibration of Kirtan (Vedic Music) as well as other virbratory music, conversation, and silence in the moment to support the deepest inquiry. Kosi's use of sound is organic by nature and represent an in the moment inquiry into the deepest core of your being. Beginning in 2012 Kosi will offer satsang where she is invited. Please see Kosi's schedule for more information. If you would like to invite Kosi to come to your area please email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Why Sound?

Through direct experience, Kosi recognizes that sound has the natural power to pierce through the physical sensations, thoughts, and emotional states of your body. It is a powerful tool for Self-Inquiry or the direct discovery of the unmoving presence—the Peace, Freedom, and Happiness of your inherent nature. As is stated so clearly in the ancient Vedic scriptures, "By sound vibration one becomes liberated." (Vedanta-sutra 4.22). Sound represents the deepest support for a natural inquiry into the depth of yourself—the vast Love in the core of your being.

Sound is the primal language. In the womb we all experienced the vibration of sound. This vibration is our very first language and is the primary reason why we all love music. Music resonates with our essence; the infinite vibration at the core of our being—the Universal Language—The language of God—The Heart. Historically, Vedic literature references the use of sound as a spiritual tool. These ancient Sanskrit scriptures assert that the entire cosmic creation began with sound; "By His utterance came the universe." (Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.2.4). The Vedanta-sutras intimate that the ultimate liberation from suffering comes from sound as well as silence, devotion, and knowledge.

Regarding the assertion, ‘By His utterance came the universe.’ Ramana might ask, ‘What existed and still exists before His utterance? Where do all utterances, all thoughts, arise from within you?’ This is Self-inquiry, the foundation of Ramana Maharshi’s life, and teaching, which is based in the single life-changing question: Who am I?

This simple question contains a powerful primordial vibration, a silent transmission of Truth, which has the intrinsic power to lead you to the peace known as nirvana or enlightenment. It is the fastest, most direct route to Freedom and true fulfillment—the deep recognition of the limitless Silence of your true nature, also known as the Self.

Ramana is known for his vast indescribable Silence and using Sound might seem to contradict his fundamental teaching; however, Kosi’s direct experience is that Silence is not the absence of Sound, but rather an indescribable presence—a living Silent vibration—the same vibration present in all forms of music; the same presence that is alive within you.

Kosi's use of sound is organic by nature and represent an in the moment inquiry into the deepest core of your being. It is not a live performance or dance and you will have the opportunity to move if you choose. This event is not a live music or kirtan performance. All music and sound for these events are pre-recorded.

There are meetings and events being planned in Ashland Oregon, San Francisco California, Kauai Hawaii, Bangalore India, and Byron Bay  and Sydney Australia, which are to be announced soon.
